A feasibility study & action plan for Rio de Janeiro

As Rio de Janeiro prepares for the Olympics and the World Cup, the city is looking for ways to reduce costs, improve security and show it is a city that is a technical and economic leader. While street lighting may not seem like a high profile opportunity, replacing existing lights using new technology can reduce energy use, save the city substantial amounts of money, make the city safer and elevate Rio’s status as an innovator.
This paper presents an assessment of street lighting replacement opportunities for the city prepared by the R20. The R20 is a non-profit organization led by former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and is dedicated to developing and implementing low carbon economic development projects, policies and best practice within subnational governments worldwide.
